Children who are in Year 1 and 2 are members of Neville Class.
Mrs Slater teaches the class while Mr Warriner also supports our young people.
Our mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class offers a warm, nurturing environment where enthusiastic and caring staff ensure every child feels supported and valued.
Children access the full curriculum through engaging, well-planned learning experiences that are responsive to their individual needs, helping them make strong and confident progress.
Thanks to our close links with the Reception class, children often continue to use well-resourced provision areas that provide a rich range of stimuli, supporting learning through exploration and play. This complements the curriculum areas taught through direct instruction, creating a balanced and developmentally appropriate approach.
We build on the strong foundations established in Reception by continuing with the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Phonics Scheme and using the White Rose scheme to secure deep understanding in mathematics and science. Children also benefit from high-quality physical education delivered weekly by a sports coach, ensuring they develop core skills, confidence, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
Additionally, we offer a range of cultural opportunities that broaden children’s experiences and enhance their understanding of the world around them. Our children engage meaningfully with the local community through educational visits, and we regularly welcome visitors into school to enrich learning. Together, these experiences help prepare the children effectively for future learning and their eventual transition to Key Stage 2.
