Governors

The Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body of Sheriff Hutton Primary School provides the school with both vision and strategic leadership. By operating within a robust accountability it also maintains oversight and provides assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance. The main functions of the Governing Body are to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Hold the leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and it’s pupils, and the performance management of it’s staff.
  • Oversee the financial performance of the organisation and make sure its money is well spent.

Our Governing Body

The Governing Body of Sheriff Hutton Primary School comprises of 13 members and its meetings are supported by an NYCC clerk. The full Governing Body meet six times throughout the school year, with committees meeting at least once a term. The Governing Body membership is drawn from parents of current and former pupils, members of the village community and those from further afield who possess specific expertise that can help to ensure that the children attending Sheriff Hutton Primary School get the best possible education.

Our Governors are appointed via three different routes.

  • Parent Governors are elected by parents/children of children attending Sheriff Hutton Primary School (children on the school roll).
  • Co-opted Governors are elected by the Governing Body and are members of our local community or who have links with our school.
  • Staff Governors are elected by the current staff of the school.

Please find a list of our Governors below, unless otherwise stated they do not have any other Governor roles in other schools or any material interests arising from relationships with school staff.
